Derek LaPointe (b.1993)
A self taught artist working in British Columbia, Canada.
Derek Lapointe is a talented artist known for his innovative compositions and color theory oil paintings. He was born and raised in Brantford, Ontario where he first discovered his passion for art at a young age. Derek is a self taught artist working full time out of his gallery in Squamish, where he honed his skills and developed his signature style.
Derek’s paintings are inspired by his love of the imperfections in natural beauty, music, film and the pursuit of excellence. His use of bold colors and structure create a sense of harmony and emotion in each piece.
In his free time, Derek enjoys philosophy, listening to music, and spending time with his friends. He believes that art has the power to inspire people to pursue excellence and break personal and societal barriers, and he is committed to using his talent to create that reality.
About my work
All my works are originals painted with oil paint. I work on hand stretched canvas and or Belgian linen. I take a great deal of care to ensure all the pigments I use are lightfast and my methods are archival to ensure my work will stand up to the test of time. I exclusively use archival products and have great confidence in the longevity and integrity of my work. My study focus is a combination of color theory and minimalist structured compositions. I strive to continue creating and innovating compositions to further explore the possibilities in conjunction with my color studies.
Every piece I release is signed and cataloged by me so there will never be doubts on the authenticity of my work.
